The National Hockey League adopted throwback uniforms during their 75th anniversary season in 1991. Teams wore retro uniforms which were very close replicas of the original versions. The main difference between the original uniforms and the throwback jerseys is that the original heavy wool fabric was replaced with cooler lightweight fabrics.
